I want to get a more defined ab section. I do about 600 abdominal crunches/abdominal reps every other day or so, but I'm not really feeling the burn the way I think I should. I do them in sets of 100, so I know I should be feeling something. Any suggestions?
600 is a lot of abdominal crunches and I don't know very many people that can make it that far. There are a couple of different things you can try to give yourself more of a challenge.
The first thing I would have you do is keep your belly button pulled in toward your spine. A good test to see if you are doing this correctly is to set a wine glass on your stomach and don't let it tip over. Also, concentrate on the negative. Crunching in is the easy part. Slow down as you lower and keep it controlled. This is where you gain strength.
Still not feeling the burn? Add some leverage and some weight. If you have a medicine ball that is great, but if not, take something from around the house that weighs about 5 lbs. Hold it above your head (almost parallel to the ground) and then crunch. You can also try an unstable surface like a stability ball.
Just abdominal work is not going to give you washboard abs, however, make sure to keep with that cardio as well.
Keep me updated on your progress!
I just tried 20 your way, and I can feel an immense difference! Here's to getting more out of my workout! Thanks for the advice, Kristen!
I am frustrated that I exercise almost every day, but I have not been able to acheive the beautiful toned body that I want. Are there certain exercises or types of exercise that will target particular parts of my body? Also, could it all stem from my eatting habits? I feel like I eat fairly healthy, but I am not always consistant about when, what, or how balanced my meals are. HELP!!!
Naomi-
There is really no such thing as spot reducing or targeting one part of your body. To get the toned look you have to do cardio in addition to resistance training.
If you have been doing the same workout for more then 6 weeks you need to change it up. Our bodies adapt to what we put it through everyday. Once it has adapted to a certain exercise it has no reason to build on top of that.
Our diets are so important! I've scene so many people just change a part of their diet, continue with their same exercise routine and see crazy results.
Calories are really important, but I don't want you to worry about that yet. First, keep a food journal. After about 5 days look back at it and see if you are happy about what you are putting into your body. You have to be completely honest with yourself, though. If you reach for a cookie in between checking your e-mail and doing laundry you have to record that. You may find that you are doing things like that more often then you think.
I'd be more then happy to take a look at your food journal if you would like some suggestions. Also, if you are in the LA area, you are welcome to come in for an initial free work out for more exercise ideas.
Let me know if this helps and keep me updated!

Thank you. I will try keeping a food journal and see how it goes. I might need some help looking over my eatting habits to know what is right and wrong. I do live in the LA area so I will contact you once I have been keeping a journal for a while. Thanks again.
